Carol Lee Schutte, 74, of New Vienna, Ohio went to be with the Lord, Wednesday November 9, 2011 at her residence with her loving husband of 56 years, Joe Schutte, by her side. Carol and her twin sister were born May 26, 1937 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Orion and Emiline Armstrong. Joe and Carol were together for 60 plus years without ever being apart for more than a day at time. They were married August 13, 1955 and after a brief period they moved to Clinton County with the last 45 years residing in New Vienna where they raised 6 children.
Carol was a devoted wife and mother, she was always there when needed, be it family or friend. She was a stay at home mother until her children were old enough for school. In the early years of the New Vienna Life Squad, Carol volunteered and remained an active member for 18 plus years. During this time she pursued her RN license, retiring as a critical care nurse in the I.C.U. at Clinton Memorial Hospital after 25 years of dedicated service. After retirement, she donated her time at the Clinton County Free Clinic. She was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church and the Red Hat Society.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Mike (Valerie) Schutte of New Vienna, Ohio, John Schutte of Blanchester, Ohio, Jim (Susan) Schutte of Wilmington, Ohio, Linda (Dean) Ruble of New Vienna, Ohio, and Joe Schutte Jr. of New Vienna, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, a son Richard Allen Schutte, three siblings, Jimmy Armstrong, Charles “Bud” Armstrong, and her identical, twin sister, Cora Rittenhouse, and a great grandson, Chance W. Gross, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, November 14, 2011 at the L. Eugene Smith & Son Funeral Home, 64 S. South Street, New Vienna, Ohio with Rev. James M. Wedig officiating. Burial will be in New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the L. Eugene Smith & Son Funeral Home.
