Cleo M. Bales, 94, of Wilmington, Ohio died Friday, April 5, 2013 at Hospice Health Care Center, Mount Pleasant Retirement Village, Monroe, Ohio. Her husband, William C. Bales, preceded her in death. Mrs. Bales was born November 11, 1918 in Arnettsville, West Virginia, daughter of the late Rev. W. P. and Elizabeth S. Anderson Clark.
Cleo graduate from West Carrollton High School. She attended Wilmington College and earned her teaching diploma. She married William “Bill” Bales August 24, 1938, and they raised three daughters. Later, Cleo was hired to teach at Smith Place School and then Denver Place. She then attended college in the summer and evenings until graduating from Wilmington College in 1960. Cleo had a wonderful sense of humor and teaching was an enjoyment as she had fine children to teach. She was a member of the PEO since 1971, a member of the English Club, Rachel Circle, several bridge clubs, and a faithful member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Alex) Bales-Alexander of Batavia, Ohio and Martha (Leonard) Hogan of Sarasota, Florida. Cleo was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and children, a daughter, Susan Laughlin, is preceded in death.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington, Ohio with Rev. Dean Feldmeyer officiating.
