Darleen M. Myers, 79, former Clinton County Commissioner, died Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Quaker Heights Care Community, Waynesville, Ohio. She had resided at Cape May Retirement Village. Her husband, Dr. Sidney A. Myers, preceded her in death. They were married March 21, 1954. Mrs. Myers was born February 15, 1933 in Clinton County, Ohio, daughter of the late Clarence James Morris and Elizabeth Rosher Morris. She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1955.
Darleen worked as the extension home economist for Clinton County from 1985-1993. She was elected to serve Clinton County as commissioner for thee consecutive terms from 1994 – 2006. She served on the committee that helped establish adult day care and she worked with local churches to establish meals on wheels in Clinton County. Darleen enjoyed her volunteer work which included serving on numerous boards or as a committee member for Wilmington College Board of Trustees, National Bank and Trust Co., Community Action, Clinton County Youth Council, Rainbow Village Childcare, Clinton County Women’s Center, Leadership Clinton Institute, Leadership Clinton Youth, Clinton County Shelter for the Homeless, Clinton Memorial Hospital, and Extension Endowment Committee. She was a member of the Six and Twenty Book Club, The Wilmington Republican Women’s Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Women’s Oriental Shrine.
She is survived by a son, Steven D. (Sylvia) Myers of Sabina, Ohio; two daughters, Nancy (David) Price of Wilmington, Ohio and Betsy (Scott) Holmer of Wilmington, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Zachary Price, Lauren Holmer, Andrew (Stephanie) Price, Neil Myers, Kelly Holmer, and Rachel Myers. In addition to her husband and parents, a sister, Kathleen Minton, is preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Bible Baptist Church of Wilmington, 55 Megan Drive, Wilmington, Ohio with Pastor Kelly D. McInerney officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Because of Darleen’s interest in the youth of Clinton County, a scholarship has been established in her name. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Darleen M. Myers Scholarship Fund, c/o Wilmington Savings Association, 184 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio 45177.
