Donald Lee Fields, 70, of Washington Court House, Ohio (formerly of Clinton County, Ohio) died Friday, January 28, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Fields was born November 3, 1940 in Wilmington, Ohio, son of Robert Fields of Washington Court House, Ohio and the late Ruth E. Moore Fields. He was a 1959 graduate of Port William High School.
Mr. Fields was a retired security guard. He had previously been employed by Airborne Express. He had also worked at the Lebanon Correctional Institute and at NCR. He was also a longtime ASA softball umpire. He was an all-around athlete. He played baseball and ran track in high school in addition to his legendary basketball career. He was Clinton County’s all time basketball scoring leader, scoring 2,135 points in his 81 game prep career. He is ranked 27th on the state’s all-time boys scoring list. He was in the top 10 all-time when he graduated high school. He played professional softball with the Cincinnati Suds and was a member of the Lima Steele’s team that won five state championships. He was inducted into the Dayton USSSA Hall of Fame in 1998. He was also named to the “All World Team” in softball. He was an inaugural member of the Clinton County Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
In addition to his father, Mr. Fields is survived by a son, Chad Donald Fields of Blanchester, Ohio; a sister, Barbara Ann (John) Andrews of Mounds, Oklahoma; his stepmother, Libby Fields of Washington Court House, Ohio; a nephew, Douglas (Heather) Lovett of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a niece, Shane Simpson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and his former spouse, Monica Fields of Blanchester, Ohio.
