Evelyn T. Fisher, 95, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away at her home on February 27, 2013. Her husband, Harold Estel Fisher, preceded her in death October 16, 2003. Mrs. Fisher was born December 5, 1917 on Center Road, in the Chester Friends Meeting community, Wilmington, Ohio, daughter of the late Raymond B. and Mary Carey Thornburg.
A graduate of Wilmington High School and Wilmington College, Mrs. Fisher began her teaching career in the 1930s at Staunton Elementary School, and retired in 1982 from Blanchester Local Schools. She was married to Harold E. Fisher, of New Vienna, Ohio, at Cincinnati Monthly Meeting on October 23, 1947. They were both birthright Friends and were active members of Fairview Friends Meeting.
Evelyn found great joy in her interactions with children, time spent with family, and her love of reading. She spent many happy hours reading and reciting poetry, and playing Scrabble. She was a member of the Clinton County Retired Teachers Association, the Wayne WCTU, the Merry Mothers Club, and the New Vienna Senior Citizens. She was a Friend of the Wilmington Public Library.
She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Fisher, Carolyn (Loren) Puckett, and Gail Thornburg, a daughter-in-law, Freya Fisher; four grandchildren, Amelia Fisher, Ian Fisher, William (Misty) Puckett, and Clistie Puckett; three great grandchildren, Elyja, Matthew, and Jonathan; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law John L. and Nicole Fisher; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Burgess and Sally Fisher; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, a daughter Lynn Elizabeth Fisher, sons, Stephen Harold Fisher and Gordon Carey Fisher, a brother, Edward Carey Thornburg, and a sister, Kathryn Jane Thornburg, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Fairview Friends Meeting, Antioch Road, New Vienna, Ohio. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Leesburg, Ohio. Friends may call from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio.
