Gladys B. Stephens, 99, of Sabina, Ohio (formerly of Port William, Ohio) died 5:20 AM, Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Autumn Years Nursing Center. Her husband, Alva W. “Jake” Stephens, preceded her in death August 20, 1981. They were married May 21, 1932. Mrs. Stephens was born September 3, 1911 in Clinton County, Ohio, daughter of the late O. B. Hiney and Bertha Sanderson Hiney. She was a graduate of Port William High School.
She was a member of the Port William United Methodist Church. She had been active in the Port William Senior Citizens, and was instrumental in getting the current facility built. She enjoyed participating in her bridge club and on her bowling team.
Mrs. Stephens is survived by two special nieces, Joy Edwards and Kathryn Markins; her special friends, Inge DeLong and Betty Carder; as well as several other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Stephens, a brother, Charles Andrew Hiney, and a sister, Phyllis Hiney Kersey, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Port William, Ohio. Friends may call from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home.
