Hubert Cordell Sr., 76, of Wilmington, Ohio died 9:00 AM, Sunday, May 13, 2012 at his residence after being ill for three years. His devoted and loving wife, Legene E. Hamilton Cordell, survives. They were married October 14, 1961. Mr. Cordell was born December 25, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Earl and Armina Williams Cordell. He moved to Wilmington in October 1947. He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Cordell worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base under the Commanders Task Force as a grounds maintenance supervisor. He retired from the base in 1985. He received a Mason Degree in 1961 from United 115 Prince Hall. He received his 32nd Masonic Degree from Miami Consistory in Troy. He was a member of Amer 107 Shrine in Dayton.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Cordell is survived by a son, Hubert Cordell II of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Tyra J. Cordell of Cincinnati, Ohio and Dana E. Cordell (Jesus) Munoz of Wilmington, Ohio; a brother, Macey (Linda) Cordell of Jeffersonville, Ohio; five grandchildren, Joshua Munoz of Wilmington, Ohio, Nicolas Munoz of Wilmington, Ohio, Christopher Cordell of Dayton, Ohio, Danielle Hubble of Wilmington, Ohio, and Kasandra Cordell of Cincinnati, Ohio; two great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Gorden Blaine “Buddy” Cordell and Don O’Neil, a sister, Bonnie E. Burns, and his loving grandmother, Aurora Williams, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family at Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Rev. Robert G. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Clinton County Memory Gardens with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 49.
