James A. “Jim” Xidas, 82, of Wilmington, Ohio died Tuesday, March 29, 2011. His wife, Katherine Arvanetes Xidas, whom he married June 21, 1953, survives. Mr. Xidas was born September 26, 1928 in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, son of the late Anthony J. and Aphrodite Markotsis Xidas. At an early age his family moved to New York, and he was raised in the borough of Manhattan. He served in the U.S. Army, Company L, 224th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War.
Mr. Xidas was the owner of the Manhattan Lounge in Wilmington, Ohio for 50 years. During those years, he dedicated his life to serving others. He loved entertainment and music and enjoyed introducing new bands in his establishment. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Dayton, Ohio. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and will be missed by many.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Xidas is survived by a son, Tony (Penny) Xidas of Miamisburg, Ohio; a brother, Nick (Gloria) Xidas of Brooklyn, New York; three grandchildren, James A. Xidas of Miamisburg, Ohio, Christina Xidas of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Victoria Xidas of Miamisburg, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Gregory “Jerry” (Sandy) Arvanetes; three nephews, Tassos Xidas, Teddy (Kristy) Xidas, and Louis G. (Laurie) Arvanetes; a niece, Leni (Mark) Beatty; as well as great nieces and great nephews.
Friends may call from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Walker Funeral Home in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Arnold, Pennsylvania.
