Joan Kirk Davis, 98, of Quaker Heights Care Community, Waynesville, Ohio died 11:00 PM, Thursday, June 27, 2013. She was a former resident of Cape May Retirement Village, Wilmington, Ohio. Her husband, Col. Charles W. Davis, preceded her in death. Mrs. Davis was born January 7, 1915 in St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of the late John and Mamie Kirk. She later moved to San Antonio, Texas where she met and married her husband, then Lt. Charles W. Davis, whom she accompanied to Hawaii where they both experienced the events of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. She was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Wilmington, Ohio and had served as secretary of Careers for Retired Military along with her husband, Col. Charles W. Davis, who served as chairman.
Mrs. Davis is survived by a daughter, Carol Davis (Jerome A.) Denier; a son, J. Kirk (Ruth) Davis; four grandchildren, Jerome A Denier III, Charles Patrick Denier, Charles K. Davis, and Christopher B. Davis; seven great grandchildren, Anthony, Sam, Danny, Nick, Chase, Connor, and Caelan; nieces, Carole Hillebrand and Peggy Davis; and a cousin, Don Blake. In addition to her husband and parents, a son, John B. “Rick” Davis, a sister, Julia Marie Kirk, and a granddaughter, Debra M. Denier, are preceded in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, July 1, 2013 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 73 N. Mulberry Street, Wilmington, Ohio. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia at a later date. Friends may call from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio.
