Mary L. Compton, 92, of Wilmington, Ohio went soaring with the eagles in Heaven 1:50 PM, Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Her husband, Victor S. Compton, preceded her in death May 17, 2000. They were married June 16, 1940. Mrs. Compton was born March 9, 1921 in Clinton County, Ohio, daughter of the late Daniel and Lilly May Lundy Gillam. She was a graduate of Wilmington High School.
Mrs. Compton was a co-owner of the family business, Compton Metal Products. She was a member of the Chester Friends Meeting. She enjoyed playing the piano and would often play at Chester Friends Meeting. She liked to sew and quilt and was an accomplished seamstress. For several years she made hats for the newborn infants at Clinton Memorial Hospital. She was very creative and was known for the miniature dollhouses she made and their tremendous detail. She also took pleasure in reading, genealogy, birds, and wildlife. Most importantly, she was a loving wife and mother.
Mrs. Compton is survived by two sons, David E. (Lisa) Compton of Sweetser, Indiana and Jim (Kandy) Compton of Wilmington, Ohio; a daughter, Nancy E. Compton of New Vienna, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Carrie (Doug) Houser, Samantha (Brian) Thomas, Amy Compton, Maria (John) Ball, Allison Compton, Amelia (Carl) Moorman, Rebecca Compton, and Olivia Compton; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, two brothers, Ernest Gillam and John Gillam, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Monday, September 23, 2013 at Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home.
