Robert E. Snell Sr., 81, of Wilmington, Ohio died 2:17 AM, Sunday, October 9, 2011 at his residence. His wife, Juanita Sanderson Snell, whom he married June 16, 1949, survives. Mr. Snell was born May 24, 1930 in Springboro, Ohio, son of the late Roy and Mamie Rigley Snell.
Mr. Snell retired from the military as a sergeant (E5) after 33 years of service with the U.S. Army and the Ohio National Guard. He also retired from the City of Wilmington after 37 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Clinton County Farmers and Sportsmen’s Club and the Wilmington Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Snell is survived by three sons, Robert Snell Jr. of Wilmington, Ohio, James (Yulonda) Snell of Wilmington, Ohio, and Wesley Snell of Wilmington, Ohio; two daughters, Carolyn (John) Wallace of Wilmington, Ohio and Peggy Snell of Wilmington, Ohio; several grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and numerous friends. In addition to his parents, a son, Eddie Snell, two brothers, one sister, and two granddaughters, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Rev. Mark Batton officiating. Burial will be in Clinton County Memory Gardens with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 49 Memorial Squad. Friends may call from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio 45177 to assist with funeral expenses.
