Russell H. “Russ” Smart, 85, of Wilmington, Ohio died 1:00 AM, Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at his residence. His wife, Doris Jean Snyder Smart, survives. They were married September 7, 1946. Mr. Smart was born March 8, 1926 in Harveysburg, Ohio, son of the late Elmer and Jennie Newton Smart. He was a graduate of Martinsville High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Smart had been a road and grounds supervisor at the Clinton County Air Force Base until its closing. He had also worked for Rice Furniture, the Clinton County Board of Mental Retardation, and the Clinton County Highway Department. He was a member of the Sharon United Methodist Church, the VFW 6170, the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1224, the American Legion Post 49, NARFE, and LFGE.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Smart is survived by a son, Daniel Russell (Wanda) Smart of Wilmington, Ohio; a daughter, Nancy Jean (Rex) Wical of Arkdale, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Dr. Danny (Traci) Smart of Waynesville, Ohio, Lindsay (Chad) McMillen of Batavia, Ohio, Heidi Wical of Wisconsin, and Jeremy Wical of Wisconsin; great grandchildren, Mariah Smart and Jansen Smart; many cousins and a special friend, Jim Jones.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, with Pastor Peggy L. Cromer officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
