Virgil R. Porter passed peacefully in his sleep 5:40 AM, Saturday, March 10, 2012 after a brief illness. His wife, Ruby Porter, survives. He was born in Silverton, Ohio, son of the late Walter H. and Jennie Hadley Porter. He was a graduate of Sycamore High School and Wilmington College.
Mr. Porter, who was a chemist, retired from Hilton Davis in Cincinnati after 37 years. He was a birthright member of the Cincinnati Friends Meeting, where he had served several years as a trustee. He also served on the building committee for the present Cincinnati Friends Meetinghouse. He served Wilmington Yearly Meeting as a member of the Evangelism and Church Extension and Finance Committees. He was also active in Miami Center Quarterly Meeting.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Porter is survived by a son, Jerry (Sheila) Porter; two daughters, Bonita (Robert LaGesse) Porter and Kathy (Bruce) Haggerty; a brother, Hershel (Angela) Porter; a sister, Eleanor Muchmore; a grandchild, Krista Porter Henson; and three step grandchildren, Lilia LaGesse, Nicholas LaGesse, and Joseph Walker.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Cincinnati Friends Meeting, 8075 Keller Road, Cincinnati, Ohio. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio. Friends may call from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio and from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Cincinnati Friends Meeting, Cincinnati.
