GERALD CASTLE Obituary

Gerald Castle, 73, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly on November 25, 2011, while visiting family in Maryland. Gerald was born in Ulysses, Kentucky in 1938 and spent many childhood years in Springfield, Ohio. At age 17, Gerald enlisted in the US Navy and after 23 years of service, retired as Chief Petty Officer. In 1956, Gerald married Loretta Couch and raised five children in various duty stations around the US. They were married for 41years until her death in 1997. During Gerald's naval career, he served in fighter squadrons on several aircraft carriers. He was deployed to the Bay of Pigs Invasion and served in the Vietnam War. Gerald received multiple commendations and medals for his service to our country. After military retirement, they moved to Beavercreek, Ohio and he started a second career as a Logistics Support Engineer for various aviation companies in the Dayton area. In 1998, Gerald married Gwen Pelfrey and settled in Falling Waters, West Virginia. They enjoyed 13 years of marriage and Gerald inherited a family that was very dear to him. He was preceded in death by his first wife Loretta, parents Collie and Marie and his brother David. He is survived by his wife Gwen Castle, his children and their spouses: Debbie Nooft (Sharon Crabtree), Robin Castle, Jerry (Charla) Castle, Sonja (Arlis) Williams, Cindy Favorite and stepchildren: Brian Taylor, Sheri (Todd) Case, and Amy (Punit) Mukhija. He is also survived by his brothers: Logan Castle, Charles (Pat) Castle, Colin (Susie) Castle, 12 grandchildren: Rick, Renee', Dominick, Ryan, Jessica, Brittany, Kendall, Samantha, Chelsea, Taylor, Ajay, Emma and 5 8/9 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, December 2, 2011 at New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather immediately following at the home of Arlis and Sonja Williams in Beavercreek, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, P.O. Box 163549, Columbus, Ohio 43216-3549.
