Mark James Stanforth, 58, of Wilmington, Ohio died 12:49 PM, Monday, September 3, 2012 at his home with his family after a brief battle with cancer. He received devoted, loving care from his mother, sister, brother, nephew Adam Mowry, and Community Care Hospice. He was born November 8, 1953 at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California, son of Norma Wisecup Stanforth of Wilmington, Ohio and the late Leo J. Stanforth. He was a 1973 graduate of Wilmington High School.
He was a longtime member and past commander of the Sons of American Legion. He was member of the Eagles, and a guest member of the VFW where he played Santa Claus for the children. He enjoyed music and playing the guitar. Mark, along with his cousin, Bob Wisecup, were part of the band “Lookin’ Back,” in which Mark sang and played the guitar. He enjoyed watching cooking shows and liked to try new recipes. He was a very good cook. Mark was also an artist and enjoyed sharing art and a mutual interest of James Dean with his cousin, Bill Wisecup. He was a member of the Wilmington Church of Christ.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Angela Stanforth of Wilmington, Ohio; a sister, Beth Mowry of Wilmington, Ohio; a brother, Steven Stanforth of Waynesville, Ohio; his nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Shane) Maynard of Hillsboro, Ohio, Adam Mowry of Columbus, Ohio, Christopher Mowry of San Antonio, Texas, Stevie Stanforth of Wilmington, Ohio, and Cassidy Stanforth of Blanchester, Ohio; two great nieces, Hannah Maynard and Ciara Maynard; many cousins; a special uncle, Mervyn (Catherine) Wisecup of Wilmington, Ohio; special cousins, Dee and Jack Tamplin of Wilmington, Ohio; a close friend, Tim Blackburn; and his longtime childhood friend, Chuck Murphy. In addition to his father a brother, Tim Stanforth, grandparents, Bob & Thelma Stanforth and Ernest & Leona Wisecup; and a close cousin, Gary Lehman, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM, Friday, September 7, 2012 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Jack Tamplin officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home. A Sons of American Legion service will be held at 7:30 PM, Thursday evening.
