Shannon Lynne Sheppard, 45, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loved ones and pets. She had fought a valiant fight against breast cancer since 2011. Her strong will to live and her unquenchable spirit were an inspiration to all who knew her. Even throughout her own battle with cancer, she reached out to others fighting the same horrendous disease, giving comfort where she could.
Shannon was born May 11, 1968, daughter of Mary Ellen Burwell Sheppard and the late Joe Sheppard. Shannon’s proudest accomplishments in her lifetime were her daughters, Kendel and Kandyce. She taught them to stand up for themselves and what they believe in, that life is worth fighting for, and to never give up. Her battle with cancer, as well as her struggle to recover from an accident that nearly took her life five years ago, gave them a great example of strength and perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds.
Shannon had a lifelong passion for horses which eventually became her livelihood. She was the proprietor of Triple S Equine, training and gentling numerous horses and giving riding lessons to countless people, including children with disabilities. She was deeply involved in the local horse community, being a past officer in both the Clinton and Highland County Horse Councils, competing in shows, organizing trail rides and fun shows, and working to clean up and maintain local bridle trails. She loved what she did and took pride in her work. She passed on her knowledge and love of horses to her two daughters, who continue in her footsteps.
Shannon’s family and many friends will long remember her for her genuine and infectious laugh, her love of fun and adventure, and her free spirit. She was known for her “never-give-up” attitude and had the uncommon ability to turn bad situations into great memories.
In addition to her mother, Shannon is survived by her two daughters, Kendel Robbe and Kandyce Robbe; husband, Jeff Owens; her brothers and sisters, Nick & Cindy Sheppard, Mary Jo & Bill Shelton, Teresa & Shane Klein, and Joey Sheppard; as well as 11 nieces and nephews.
A gathering to celebrate Shannon’s life and memories will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Triple S Equine, 1264 Ireland Road, Wilmington, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, her daughters requests memorial contributions be made to Susan G Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
