Dorothy M (Young) "Moosie" Daye

Dorothy M. “Moosie” Daye, 91, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024.  Her husband, Estel Glen Daye Jr. preceded her in death May 11, 2001.  They were married July 12, 1953.  She was born August 31, 1932 in Cherry Fork, Adams County, Ohio, daughter of the late Andrew Franklin Young and Mary Elda Carter Young.  She was a 1950 graduate of Wilmington High School.

For many years, Mrs. Daye assisted her husband with the family business, Daye Hardware in New Vienna.  She was a member of the Clinton County Aging Up Center, the Clinton County Historical Society, and was a longtime member of the New Vienna Church of Christ and later the Wilmington Church of Christ. She also volunteered for several years at Fairfield Local School and Sardinia Elementary School. In 2013, Dorothy was honored as the Clinton County Corn Festival Queen.  She enjoyed camping and traveling with her family.  Dorothy’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were an integral part of her life, and she was very active in all of their activities.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Michael (Jana) Daye, Cathy (Kevin) Hamilton, Beverly (John) Beireis, and John (Jeanne) Daye; brother, Herman Young; sister, Ruby Henderson; grandchildren, Joshua Daye, Jaime (Scott) Barrett, Jennifer (Bill) Walls, Andy (Miranda) Daye, Bradley Hamilton, Laura Hamilton, Kevin (Kristen) Beireis, Matthew (Chantelle) Beireis, Zachary (Kaitlin) Kountz, Jessie (Michael) Rickard, and Luke (Cheyanne) Daye; and great-grandchildren, Dakota Beireis, Aiden Barrett, Teagan Barrett, Haley Rickard, Tyler Rickard, Elizabeth Walls, Lillian Walls, Juliana Daye, Liam Walls, James Daye, Kaden Kountz, Cole Kountz, Elsie Jean Daye, and Clary Walls.

In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her stepmother, Rose Ellen Minzler Young; two brothers, Tom Young and Kenneth Young; a sister, Margaret Young; and her great-granddaughter, Mavery Marie Daye.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Wilmington Church of Christ, 909 W. Locust Street, Wilmington, Ohio.  A funeral service with Dale McCamish officiating will begin at 1:00 PM, Thursday.  Burial will follow in New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
