Donald Lee Pinkerton, 73, of New Vienna, Ohio went to his heavenly home 8:22 PM, Sunday, February 9, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. His wife, Linda S. Francis Pinkerton, survives. They were married September 12, 1979. Mr. Pinkerton was born December 5, 1940 in Portsmouth, Ohio, son of the late Joseph E. and Marjorie M. Bond Pinkerton. He was a1959 graduate of Simon Kenton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Pinkerton worked in construction as an iron worker for many years for at Brown and Root in Texas. He also worked for the Village of New Vienna for over 30 years as the groundskeeper and caretaker of the New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Most importantly, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Pinkerton is survived by five sons, Allen R. E. (Lori) Pinkerton of Bellaire, Ohio, Michael D. (Sophia) Pinkerton of Highlands, Texas, Steven T. Pinkerton of Pearland, Texas, Charles J. (fiancée Jessica) Pinkerton of Peebles, Ohio, and Jacob A. P. Pinkerton of Hillsboro, Ohio; two daughters, Donna L. (Wesley) Smith of Willis, Texas and Sheila R. (Greg) Dawson of Martinsville, Ohio; four brothers, Joseph E. Pinkerton, Jr. of Seaman, Ohio, Roger D. (Carolyn) Pinkerton of New Vienna, Ohio, Randy T. (Mindy) Pinkerton of Wilmington, Ohio, and Ronald W. (Melissa) Pinkerton of Waynesville, Ohio; three sisters, Betty L. Burke of New Vienna, Ohio, Mary S. (Merle) Pocholec of Veneta, Oregon, and Joan L. (Kenneth Rex) Humphrey of Greenfield, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, a brother, John H. Pinkerton Sr., a sister-in-law, Louise Pinkerton, and a brother-in-law, Robert Burke, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Friday, February 14, 2014 at the L. Eugene Smith & Son Funeral Home, 64 S. South Street, New Vienna, Ohio with Rev. Joe Pinkerton officiating. Burial will be in Cowan’s Creek Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 49 Memorial Squad.
