Helen Louise Curtis, 84, of Wilmington, Ohio died 1:15 PM, Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Autumn Years Nursing Home, Sabina, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Curtis. They were married June 17, 1945. Mrs. Curtis was born December 27, 1926, in Clinton County, Ohio, daughter of the late Joseph M. and Bertha Woods Daniel. She was a 1945 graduate of Wilmington High School.
Mrs. Curtis was a school bus driver for Wilmington City Schools for 30 years. She also had been a clerk at Fairley Hardware Store in Wilmington, a bookmobile driver for the Wilmington Public Library, and a secretary and cook at the Wilmington High School. She also was a farmer’s wife. She was a member of the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ in Wilmington. She had been active in her church and held several offices. She was a gardener and was an accomplished musician and vocalist.
Mrs. Curtis is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Curtis of Wilmington, Ohio, Karen (Ron) Piatt of Leesburg, Ohio, and Martha (Louis) Bourgeois of Maineville, Ohio; a sister, Ruth Anna (Ben) Page of Washington Court House, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Ruth E. Stuart of Enon, Ohio and Carole Jameson of Frankfort, Kentucky; a brother-in-law, John (Donna) Dailey of Wilmington, Ohio; a grandson, Derek Jimison of Batavia, Ohio; and a great granddaughter, Hallie Jimison of Carrollton, Kentucky. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David D. Curtis, and a sister, Mary Ellen Dailey.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, 120 Columbus Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Rev. Dr. Tom Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in New Antioch Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Friday, July 15, 2011 at the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ.
