Helen M. Fisher, 57, of Hillsboro, Ohio died 2:16 PM, Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Clinton Memorial Hospital, Wilmington, Ohio. Ms. Fisher was born May 13, 1954 in Washington Court House, Ohio, daughter of the late Henry C. and Mary Eleanor Chandler Fisher. She received her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University. She did her graduate work at Ohio University as well.
Ms. Fisher retired after 32 years of teaching at Crooksville High School in Perry County. She was a member of St. Benignus Catholic Church in Greenfield, Ohio, the Hillsboro Retired Teachers Association, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, the D.A.R., the Ya Ya’s, and the Fuzzy Socks. She was a volunteer at the New Vienna Elementary School and at the OSU Extension Office in Highland County. She had been a 9-year 4-H member, a Key 4-H leader, and a recipient of the Future Homemakers of America State Award. She was passionate about making blankets and pillowcases for children with cancer. Most importantly, though, she was a dedicated daughter, a loving sister, and a fun loving aunt.
She is survived by three brothers, Robert A. (Joanna) Fisher of New Vienna, Ohio, Charles W. Fisher of New Vienna, Ohio, and David L. (Tammy) Fisher of Wilmington, Ohio; three sisters, Alice A. (Thomas) Symons of Parma, Ohio, Rose E. (James) Merkowitz of Washington Court House, Ohio, and Mary Catherine (Donald) Eicher of Broadview Heights, Ohio; her nieces and nephews, Charles Nicholas Fisher, Allen J. (Janelle) Fisher, Joshua D. Fisher, Kimberly (Caleb) Storer, Kelly Fisher, Robert M. Fisher, Tiffany (David) Boris, Allison L. Symons, Phillip A. Symons, Elizabeth Carey Merkowitz, Lynne A. Merkowitz, D. Matthew Eicher, Madeleine Chandler Eicher, Alexandra C. Eicher, Andrew J. Eicher, and John Luke Henry Eicher; and her great nephews, Dylan Fisher, Connor Fisher, and Mason Fisher.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 11, 2011 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 73 N. Mulberry Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Rev. James M. Wedig and Rev. Mike Paraniuk officiating. Burial will be in New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM, Friday.
