Joseph W. Beam, 51, of Wilmington, Ohio died Friday, January 11, 2013. His wife, Heidi Adkins Beam, whom he married November 20, 1993, survives. Mr. Beam was born March 1, 1961 in Wilmington, Ohio, son of D. Malcolm and Rebecca Waters Beam of New Albany, Ohio. He was a 1979 graduate of Wilmington High School and a graduate of The Ohio State University. He was a member of A.G.R. Fraternity at O.S.U.
Mr. Beam owned and operated Beam Custom Application. He was a member of the Port William United Methodist Church and was chairman of the church trustee board. He enjoyed family vacations, spending time with friends, and hunting and fishing. A longtime 4-H member himself, Mr. Beam was active in helping his children with their 4-H projects. He liked football and was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He collected toy tractors as well as antique tractors. He was a member of the Antique Power Club. He received his pilot’s license when he was in college and enjoyed flying. He also bowled in a Wilmington bowling league.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Beam is survived by two sons, Leighton Beam and Ridgeden Beam; two daughters, McKinis Beam and Drezden Beam; a brother, Tom (Molly) Beam of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Amy (Dave) Taylor of New Albany, Ohio; his father-in-law, John Adkins of Washington Court House, Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Carol (Butch) McCoy of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, Sabine (Russ) Loeffler of Idaho, and Mary Vinion of Washington Court House, Ohio; and a brother-in-law, Kevin (Kathy) Adkins of Washington Court House, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Ursula Adkins.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Port William United Methodist Church, 241 Main Street, Port William, Ohio with Rev Thomas E. Hite officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Port William, Ohio. Friends may call from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Joseph W. Beam Memorial Trust Fund, c/o PNC Bank, 1373 Rombach Avenue, Wilmington, Ohio 45177 to assist with the college educations of Mr. Beam’s children.
