Christopher John Towner, 53, of New Vienna, Ohio fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Sunday, February 9, 2014. His wife, Jonda Curtis Towner, survives. They were married February 14, 1987. Mr. Towner was born April 29, 1960 in West Union, Ohio, son of Frances Clare Hurley Towner of Maysville, Kentucky, and the late James Gordon Towner. He was a graduate of West Union High School.
Mr. Towner was a 20-year employee of Airborne Express. He had also worked at Serco in Fairborn and Ahresty in Wilmington. He was a former Mayor of New Vienna. Chris was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Towner is survived by two sons, Tim (Kristen) McGraw of Waynesville, Ohio and Jeremy (Samantha) McGraw of New Vienna, Ohio; four brothers, Mike (Lisa) Towner of Fayetteville, Ohio, Danny (Lana) Towner of Maysville, Kentucky, Pat (Diane) Towner of Florida, and Denis Towner of West Union, Ohio; two sisters, Angela (Rick) Moreno of Frankfort, Kentucky and Elaine (Ray) DeColibus of Circleville, Ohio; one grandchild, Jackson Curtis McGraw; two grandchildren due in March, Carson Paul McGraw and Emery Lynn McGraw; a sister-in-law, Jana (Randy) Davis; a brother-in-law, Jim (Kaci) Curtis; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; special friends, Shirley Lee Collier and Doris Robbins; and his dog, Molly. In addition to his father, two brothers, David Towner and Joe Towner, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the New Vienna United Methodist Church, 11576 State Route 28, New Vienna, Ohio with Rev. Dan Mayo officiating. Burial will be in Green Township I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Monday, February 17, 2014 at the New Vienna United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the New Vienna Community Church Building Fund, 412 West Street, New Vienna, Ohio 45159.
