Dorothy Mae Allen, 92, of Wilmington, Ohio died 1:44 PM, Monday, February 20, 2012 surrounded by her family at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. Her beloved husband, John N. Allen Sr., preceded her in death February 19, 2001. They were married September 8, 1939. Mrs. Allen was born November 21, 1919 near Summitville, Indiana, daughter of the late Willard and Georgia Overman Bozell.
After her marriage, Dorothy and John lived in Flint, Michigan. They came to Wilmington in 1946 to open a photography studio, where she worked with her husband until her retirement in 1986. She and her husband loved photography and travel. They had visited all 50 states and many foreign countries. She was a member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church, the former Wilmington Mother’s Club, the Clinton County Senior Citizens Center, and the Red Hat Society.
Mrs. Allen is survived by two sons, Dr. John N. (Nancy) Allen Jr. of Ithaca, Michigan and Hal (Sue) Allen of Wilmington, Ohio; four grandchildren, Krista (Dayne Ashbaugh) Allen of Los Angeles, California, Ken (Melanie) Allen of Seattle, Washington, Brandi (Matthew) Derby of Ithaca, Michigan, and Jenna Allen of Lansing, Michigan; and three great grandchildren, Jordan Allen, Selah Grace Derby, and Ryah Derby. In addition to her husband and parents, two brothers, Harold Bozell and Paul Bozell, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 50 E. Locust Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Rev. Dean Feldmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Wilmington United Methodist Church.
