Roosevelt Watkins Jr., 64, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away peacefully Sunday, May 1, 2011 at his residence. His wife, Rhoena Cumberland Watkins, whom he married May 6, 1996, survives. Mr. Watkins was born June 12, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Roosevelt Watkins Sr. and Elizabeth Dixon Watkins. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Dayton, Ohio and served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Watkins retired from GM and Frigidaire in Dayton. He was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness for many years and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Wilmington, Ohio. He had a generous heart.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Watkins is survived by two daughters, Theresa Jones of Middletown, Ohio and Cynthia Wilson of Morristown, Tennessee; two stepchildren, Dwaine (Shannon) Cumberland of Wilmington, Ohio and Gwen Cumberland of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, William H. (Carole) Thomas of Dayton, Ohio and Michael A. Watkins of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Mary E. Walton of Dayton, Ohio and Ethel L. Samuels of California; nine grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, three brothers, Albert F. Thomas, Stephen Anthony Watkins, and Roland Eric Watkins, a sister, Ida Mae Crenshaw, and two infant children, are preceded in death.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, family, Kingdom Hall family, and friends
Friends may call from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. Burial will be in Dayton National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
