Wilma J. Croghan, 79, of New Vienna, Ohio went to be with the Lord, 1:57 AM, Friday, August 3, 2012 at her residence. Her husband, John E. Croghan, preceded her in death. Mrs. Croghan was born April 27, 1933 on the family farm, daughter of the late William and Nellie Evans Thornburg.
During her career, she worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, was the clerk for the Village of New Vienna, and retired from New Vienna Elementary School where she served as secretary for over 40 years.
Wilma was very active in her community and loved serving others. She was a member of the New Vienna United Methodist Church and was involved in many activities there including serving as the church organist for many years, United Methodist Women, Gentle Shepherd Variety Store, bell choir director, finance team, administrative council, food pantry, vacation bible school, annual chicken barbeque, and Harvest Bazaar. Wilma was also involved in many organizations including the New Vienna Mother’s Club, Bridge Club, Clinton County Fair, Community Care Hospice volunteer, New Vienna Senior Citizens, Red Hat Society, School Reading Success Makers, Book Fair, Ho Ho Shop, as well as volunteering for many other groups. She loved to travel with her family and friends. She always looked forward to her many trips. She loved spending time with her family at Sunday dinner every week and playing games with everyone. She will be dearly missed.
Wilma is survived by a son, Kevin (Judith) Croghan; a brother, Harold Thornburg; a sister-in-law, Linda Croghan; five grandchildren, Tim (Karen) Croghan, Tausha (Steve) Young, Janielle (Todd) Runyon, David McCord, and Nicholas (fiancée, Jackie Cleaver) McCord; seven great grandchildren; a very special great-great granddaughter on the way; and two nephews, Lewis Thornburg and David Thornburg. In addition to her husband and parents, two sisters-in-law, Chiquita Croghan and Carolyn Thornburg, and two great grandchildren, Aaron Croghan and Harley Croghan, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the New Vienna United Methodist Church, 11576 State Route 28 West, New Vienna, Ohio with Pastor Dan Mayo and Pastor Sarah Chapman officiating. Burial will be in New Vienna Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Monday, August 6, 2012 at the New Vienna United Methodist Church.
